If you’ve read California Schemin’ then you know Richard Hambecker figures heavily in that story. Bree started calling him Hammie, mostly just to irritate him, but also to get back at him for messing up her life. He’s beginning to figure more heavily in her life, and a writer I trust told me I couldn’t name my male lead Hammie. Just couldn’t do it.

I understand that Hammie is a turn off for her. I’m good with that, but I’m also curious, how do the rest of you feel about the name Hammie? What names do you favor for your heros?

I’ve posted another poll (you know how I love those things!) and would love to hear from you.

The poll won’t come up for me. 🙁
However, I have no problem with Hammie, given the humorous nature of the book. Plus, like Lora, I find Hammie rather endearing.

I love polls and I think Hammie has a sort of endearing, teasing vibe that is insular to the two of them. I like it a lot. To me, Hambecker sounds like a dirty hamburger 😀

Hammie? Not unless he’s a piece of meat, little bit fatty (mustard helps here), and well hung — oh, wait. Go with Rick and offshoots thereof.

There’s something kind of irresistible about polls. I would go with Rick for the rest of the world and for Bree usually, but Hammie when she’s either teasing him or possibly being affectionate. I’ve never known a Richard I found attractive, Hambecker always makes me think of hamburgers, Beck or Becker is okay and Dick just brings to many jokes to mind. TMI?

Okay I played. Naming the hero is kind of hard for me because it seems like all the names are used to death or are so similar to names that are used to death.
My current heroes name is York and I like it.

I want to see the poll results!

I’ll post the results toward the end of the week. Okay?

I seriously just finished California Schemin’ in the wee hours of the morning and I have to admit, I loved that Bree called him Hammie. It just…fit.

And I was so pleasantly surprised/happy to see that you will be continuing with another book with them as the focus together. I kept waiting for it to happen at the end of CS, so I’m excited to know that it will occur. 🙂
