I’m having trouble with Glimmer Girls. I’m bored of it. I hope this doesn’t mean I”m bored with writing, because that would be very bad for my writing career! I’m not very good at doing things I’m bored of – hence (isn’t that a good word? Hence.) Hence the plethora of unfinished projects and unused craft supplies stuffed in odd corners of my house.
Some part of this story isn’t working for me, (Glimmer Girls, not the blog) and I have to fix it. Hopefully before I get word from an agent that he or she wants it. (I have a perfectly lovely publisher for my mysteries, but this isn’t and wouldn’t interest her in the least.)
What I need is to look at some stories where the girl (or guy) falls in love with the wrong person. The reader may know it’s wrong but the protag doesn’t. But I can’t think of any. At least I couldn’t think of any until just now – the movie Leap Year just jumped into my head. That’s a good example. See how good you folks are for me. I just write something to you and the answer pops into my head. Fabulous.
But if you know of any more, let me know. Because and assortment of books to read and movies to watch would keep me out of trouble for the next week while my kids are playing with the new wii.
Hope you had a good Christmas Day, regardless of your religious persuasion.

Not as clear thinking as I’d like to be, but really, so glad we could help!
How about Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series (shut up Lora, so what if you knew I was going to suggest that one)? Or any of her other stories? The Sir John ones are quite distracting and very well written. That woman can enterain, that’s for sure.
Enjoy your home time! (And hug your kids, before they move away for ever. Oh, was that outloud?)
Or just, you know, scrap it and write that mermaid one that’s so amazing that I want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rebel Heiress by Jane Aiken Hodge (guy she absolutely loves turns out to be shtupping her stepmom)
Silk Vendetta by Victoria Holt (Drake is a tool but the hero/crush of her youth and even though she’s a grown woman and he’s married she is all crazy about him for a lot of the book)
And getting bored/frustrated with the book is kinda normal I think (*although I’m not published so ymmv*). I had a period of time when I would have rather poked out my eye than look at my nonsensical mess of a draft. Yours, I know, is not nonsensical or a mess but has some niggling detail that’s not thrilling you. Keep at it, after a long bath and a movie or book you love.
