I have books stacked all over my house. Books I’ve read, books I haven’t read, books I’m not sure if I’ve read or not.
I was up in the middle of the night. I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. My legs HURT when I lie down. I’ll fall asleep for an hour or so, but then I wake up with my legs in agony. So I get up and walk around a little and on days when I’m really lucky I’m able to go back to sleep.
This was one of those nights where there was no going back to sleep, so I picked up a book from one of the stacks and started to read. I was hoping that the book would be boring and I’d fall asleep reading. Wouldn’t be the first time. Sudoku puts me to sleep too. (maybe I should keep sudoku by my bed again. To do when I’m awake at night.)
Anyway. I picked up Nora McFarland’s A Bad Day’s Work. It was neither boring or sleep inducing. I read through the night. Not smart of me I know. But I wasn’t going to be sleeping anyway so why not enjoy the time? The story is about Lilly, a rare female shooter (camera person) at a TV news station. Things have been happening and she takes a night assignment to try and redeem her reputation. But when she goes to view the tape it’s black. No picture. What is going on? Is Lilly incompetant?
You’ll need to read to find out.
